Τρία λεπτά μετά την είσοδό τους στον αγωνιστικό χώρο (60΄) οι Τζακ Γκρίλις και Ριχάντ Μαχρέζ συνδυάστηκαν άψογα κι από ασίστ του Άγγλου διεθνούς επιθετικού, ο Αλγερινός μέσος πέτυχε το «χρυσό» γκολ της Μάντσεστερ Σίτι, χάρις στο οποίο νίκησε με 1-0 την Τσέλσι στο «Στάμφορντ Μπριτζ» στο δεύτερο μεγάλο ματς της 19ης αγωνιστικής της Premier League.

Με την 8η νίκη της στα 12 τελευταία ματς η ομάδα του Πεπ Γκουαρδιόλα δεν έδειξε να επηρεάζεται από τη «γκέλα» της περασμένης εβδομάδας με την Εβερτον (1-1) και με το «τρίποντο» απέναντι στους Λονδρέζους εκμεταλλεύτηκε το 0-0 της πρωτοπόρου Άρσεναλ με τη Νιουκάστλ και πλησίασε ξανά στο -5 από την κορυφή.

Οι τραυματισμοί και οι αναγκαστικές αλλαγές των Στέρλινγκ (5΄) και Πούλισικ (22΄) σαφώς και αποδιοργάνωσαν τους γηπεδούχους, που απέτυχαν να νικήσουν σε δεύτερο σερί ματς μετά το εκτός έδρας 1-1 με τη Νότιγχαμ και, πλέον, η υπόθεση «έξοδος στην Ευρώπη» δυσκολεύει γι΄ αυτούς ακόμη περισσότερο (βρίσκονται στο -8 από την 5η Τότεναμ.
